December 2024 performance summary for lancedb/lancedb focused on expanding data modality capabilities through VoyageAI Embedding Multimodal Support. Implemented end-to-end support for processing both text and image inputs within the VoyageAI embedding function, including architectural updates to the embedding base class, refinements to text handling, and new image embedding generation methods. This work enables multimodal embeddings and aligns with the voyage-multimodal-3 model for broader model compatibility and future scalability.
