Worked on the opensearch-project/OpenSearch repository to deliver a dynamic memory management system focused on runtime configurability and efficient resource utilization. Developed the DynamicLimitPool, enabling memory pool limits to be adjusted without process restarts, and replaced the previous GreedyMemoryPool. Leveraged both Java and Rust to expose new APIs for querying and setting memory usage, integrating these controls with cluster settings for immediate effect. Enhanced Arrow-based workloads by supporting dynamic sizing and invariant validation, while improving startup and shutdown safety. The work emphasized robust plugin integration, concurrent programming, and performance optimization, resulting in more flexible and reliable memory management across the platform.
May 2026 monthly summary focused on delivering dynamic memory management and associated improvements in OpenSearch, with a strong emphasis on business value through runtime configurability, better resource utilization, and cross-language integration.
