Developed and integrated NATS WebSocket support into the vectordotdev/vector repository, enabling both ws:// and wss:// protocols for NATS source and sink components. This work involved introducing a feature flag within the async-nats library to toggle WebSocket functionality, updating test suites and documentation, and ensuring compatibility with real-time browser-based clients. By leveraging Rust and focusing on backend development, the implementation broadened interoperability with existing NATS deployments and improved security through encrypted connections. The changes were validated through updated tests and changelog entries, laying the groundwork for enhanced client compatibility and more flexible deployment options within the vector ecosystem.
