During February 2025, Jorrit Smit contributed to the atopile/atopile repository by developing a new feature for the KiCad PCB Exporter. He implemented the hide_all_designators method within the Faebryk PCB transformer, enabling automated hiding of designators across all footprints in exported KiCad PCB files. This solution iterates through each footprint and its text elements, programmatically managing designator visibility to streamline the export workflow. The work focused on maintainable code changes that add business value, leveraging Python for development and applying expertise in PCB design and exporter tooling. The contribution addressed workflow efficiency, though the scope was limited to a single feature.
