Worked on the sfbrigade/datasci-earthquake repository, focusing on enhancing the search functionality’s performance within the front end. Addressed performance bottlenecks by introducing memoization to the search bar component, enabling result caching and reducing unnecessary re-renders. This approach improved both responsiveness and maintainability, laying groundwork for future feature development. The work was implemented using JavaScript, React, and Next.js, with attention to maintainable UI-level caching strategies. No critical bugs were documented or fixed during this period, and the month’s efforts also included updating the data file to onboard a new team member, supporting collaboration and team visibility within the project.
