In June 2025, Alex Hall developed Firebolt database integration and benchmarking capabilities for the ClickHouse/ClickBench repository. He implemented an automated benchmark script using Bash and SQL, enabling end-to-end testing from setup through data ingestion to query execution against Firebolt. His work included designing a SQL schema for the hits table and creating a suite of benchmark queries, establishing a reproducible process for performance evaluation. By integrating Firebolt into ClickBench, Alex enabled reliable cross-engine comparisons and data-driven optimization decisions. The project demonstrated depth in benchmarking, database integration, and shell scripting, providing a robust foundation for ongoing performance analysis.
