During November 2024, Honza Zrncik enhanced the rapid7/strimzi-kafka-operator by developing an upgrade diagnostics feature that enables precise, label-based pod image logging during upgrade tests. Leveraging Java, Kubernetes, and system testing expertise, Honza refactored the logPodImages method in AbstractUpgradeST.java to accept LabelSelector arguments, allowing for targeted logging and improved diagnostic clarity. This technical approach reduced diagnostic noise and improved upgrade observability, making it easier to identify and resolve issues during upgrade processes. The work demonstrated a focused, in-depth contribution that strengthened the reliability of upgrade workflows for users relying on the Strimzi Kafka Operator.
