During May 2025, contributed backend enhancements to the DEFRA/fg-gas-backend and DEFRA/fg-cw-backend repositories, focusing on event-driven architecture and improved integration. Developed two features using Node.js and JavaScript, including support for an optional SNS topic configuration to handle approved application events and an API endpoint for updating case stages. Leveraged AWS SNS and CloudEvents to enable consistent notification patterns and streamlined downstream processing. The approach emphasized configuration management, making SNS topics optional for test environments to improve reliability. These changes enhanced observability, deployment confidence, and test stability, while establishing a more maintainable and scalable eventing framework across services.
