During May 2025, Islas focused on backend enhancements for the DEFRA/fg-gas-backend and DEFRA/fg-cw-backend repositories. They developed two features using Node.js and JavaScript, introducing SNS and CloudEvents-based notifications to enable more consistent event-driven workflows. In fg-gas-backend, Islas added optional configuration for approved application event topics, improving test reliability and deployment flexibility. For fg-cw-backend, they built an API endpoint to update case stages, publishing CloudEvents to AWS SNS and updating configuration management for topic ARNs. This work established unified eventing patterns, improved downstream integration, and strengthened observability, reflecting a thoughtful approach to scalable backend and cloud architecture.
