Worked on the UKGovernmentBEIS/inspect_ai repository to address a critical stability issue in log condensation, specifically targeting crashes caused by split UTF-16 lone surrogate characters. The solution involved updating the Python-based hashing function to properly handle these edge cases, thereby reducing the risk of production failures and improving log data integrity. Expanded unit testing ensured the new logic maintained hashing stability across a variety of input scenarios. The work also included updating the public changelog to document these improvements and collaborating with team members to share knowledge, demonstrating a methodical approach to back end development and robust software maintenance.
