In August 2025, JD Sha enhanced license recognition within the WordPress/plugin-check repository by improving how the system identifies and reports GPL-compatible licenses. Focusing on backend development and license management, JD Sha updated the license check logic to recognize The Unlicense as GPL-compatible and normalized its identifier to the SPDX standard, ensuring consistent license reporting across plugin readmes and automated checks. The work, implemented in PHP and supported by unit testing, addressed potential legal ambiguities and improved the accuracy of license validation. While no bugs were fixed during this period, the feature delivered deeper compliance and reliability for plugin license verification workflows.
