In April 2025, Jengebr contributed to the apache/tomcat repository by developing an optimized implementation for JSTL c:set and c:remove tags in Java, focusing on compiler development and performance optimization. The work involved bypassing standard tag processing logic under specific conditions, which improved JSP execution speed. Jengebr updated core components such as the Options interface, JspC compiler, Generator, and JspRuntimeLibrary to support these non-standard optimizations. Comprehensive unit tests were implemented to verify the new tag behaviors and prevent regressions. This feature demonstrated a deep understanding of tag libraries and compiler internals, delivering targeted improvements without introducing new bugs.
