In April 2025, Jengebr contributed to the apache/tomcat repository by developing an optimized implementation for JSTL c:set and c:remove tags in Java, focusing on performance improvements for JSP applications. The work involved bypassing standard tag processing paths under specific conditions, which enhanced execution speed for targeted use cases. Jengebr updated core components such as the Options interface, JspC compiler, Generator, and JspRuntimeLibrary to support these non-standard optimizations. Comprehensive unit tests were implemented to ensure correct behavior and prevent regressions. This work demonstrated depth in compiler development, tag library optimization, and rigorous testing within a complex Java-based codebase.
