In November 2024, Jan Simek developed a security-focused feature for the tnb-software/TNB repository, integrating Google Secret Manager into the system-x service. He designed and implemented Java classes to handle secret creation, deletion, versioning, access, and listing, enabling secure storage and retrieval of sensitive information. This approach eliminated hard-coded credentials, centralized secret management, and laid the foundation for automated secret rotation and improved auditability. By leveraging Java, Google Cloud Secret Manager API, and cloud services, Jan aligned the project with security and cloud-native best practices. The work demonstrated depth in secure secret lifecycle management and addressed critical security requirements.
