Johana Alarcon enhanced the accessibility of the securityscorecard/design-system repository by implementing targeted improvements across several React UI components. She focused on adding ARIA attributes and roles, such as aria-hidden, role=tooltip, and aria-invalid, to ensure better support for keyboard navigation and screen readers. Using JavaScript and TypeScript, Johana addressed accessibility linting issues by reordering JSX attributes to comply with project standards. Her work improved the design system’s overall usability and compliance, reducing potential user experience barriers. Over the course of the month, she delivered one feature that strengthened the accessibility posture of the front end without introducing new bugs.
