Worked on the element-hq/element-web repository to deliver a Voice Message Input feature that allows users to record voice messages using their selected microphone, enhancing consistency and reliability across devices. Implemented this functionality in TypeScript by passing the chosen deviceId into MediaStream constraints, ensuring the application honors user preferences rather than defaulting to the system microphone. Developed comprehensive unit tests to verify correct microphone selection and prevent future regressions, focusing on robust front end development practices. Addressed a critical bug related to device selection, collaborating on code quality improvements and preparing the codebase for broader test coverage and ongoing maintainability.
