Developed the dagster-cloud-mcp package within the dagster-io/dagster repository, delivering a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to support GraphQL operations for Dagster Cloud. Focused on backend development using Python, the work included implementing token-authentication middleware to securely capture bearer tokens from HTTP requests and building a dedicated GraphQL client for seamless API interactions. Created a suite of MCP tools to manage runs, retrieve deployment information, and query assets, while adding predefined GraphQL queries for common workflows. Comprehensive unit tests were written to validate token handling and client initialization, contributing to improved security and reliability of the internal API infrastructure.
April 2026: Delivered Dagster Cloud MCP server package and companion tooling to enable MCP-based GraphQL operations for Dagster Cloud. Implemented token-authentication middleware, a GraphQL client, and MCP tools to list runs, fetch run details, retrieve deployment info, query assets, and launch/terminate runs. Added predefined GraphQL queries and comprehensive unit tests for token handling and client initialization. Changelog highlights new internal MCP components and security hardening.
