Jyao Yao focused on enhancing the reliability and data integrity of distributed storage in the eBay/HomeStore repository over a two-month period. Working primarily in C++ and leveraging expertise in distributed systems and the Raft consensus protocol, Jyao addressed critical bugs in the replication subsystem. The work included refining leader transition handling, improving error management for fetch data requests, and ensuring safe system shutdown by sequencing thread termination. Additional efforts involved validating log append operations and resolving issues with remote block ID handling. These targeted fixes and refactors improved cluster stability, reduced replication failures, and strengthened the overall robustness of HomeStore.
