
In August 2025, Marcell Kónya developed a Hungarian keyboard layout for the virtual keyboard in the koreader/koreader repository. He extended the existing English layout by integrating Hungarian characters, carefully adjusting key positions and sizes to enhance usability for native speakers. Using Lua and applying frontend development and UI/UX design skills, Marcell registered the new layout within the virtual keyboard widget, making it easily selectable for users. This work addressed internationalization needs and reduced friction for Hungarian readers on embedded devices. The project’s scope was focused, delivering a single feature with attention to user experience and technical integration within the codebase.
