During November 2024, Lightning Lu enhanced backend contributor detection for the ResearchHub/researchhub-backend repository. He expanded the access_type filter to recognize ASSISTANT_EDITOR, ASSOCIATE_EDITOR, and SENIOR_EDITOR roles in addition to EDITOR, ensuring accurate identification of active contributors and Hub editors. Using Django, DRF, and Python, he updated the backend logic to improve the precision of contributor analytics and editorial workflow tracking. This work addressed governance data quality and provided stakeholders with better visibility into editorial roles. The update laid a foundation for future governance and reporting improvements, demonstrating thoughtful backend development within a focused, single-feature release cycle.
