In December 2025, lms@meta.com developed a native Obsidian plugin for the facebook/sapling repository, integrating Sapling SCM’s Interactive Smartlog (ISL) directly into the Obsidian environment. Using TypeScript and leveraging full stack and plugin development skills, they implemented automatic repository detection via the .sl directory and managed the Sapling ISL web server lifecycle with port fallback for reliability. The plugin embedded ISL into the Obsidian UI, adding a status bar, command palette integration, and configurable settings to support flexible workflows. Comprehensive documentation and code review ensured maintainability, reflecting a focused, well-architected solution to streamline version control within Obsidian vaults.
