Marek Simek enhanced telemetry reliability and deployment readiness across the solarwinds-otel-collector-releases and solarwinds-otel-collector-contrib repositories. He implemented OTLP port configuration fixes to ensure telemetry exports reached the correct endpoints, reducing data routing errors and improving observability accuracy. Marek introduced end-to-end TLS testing using Go and Docker, enabling secure communication between OpenTelemetry collectors. He also developed Kubernetes-specific distributions by refining build automation and Dockerfile configurations, supporting seamless deployment in containerized environments. His work included enriching exported signals with collector attribution, tightening license compliance, and updating dependencies, demonstrating a thorough approach to code maintenance, configuration management, and secure, observable system design.

January 2025 performance summary focused on security, deployment readiness, and observability attribution across SolarWinds OpenTelemetry projects. Delivered TLS-enabled testing, Kubernetes-ready distributions, and improved data attribution, while tightening license compliance and dependency hygiene to reduce risk and accelerate safe deployments.

Month: 2024-12 — Telemetry export reliability improvements across SolarWinds OpenTelemetry Collector projects. Delivered critical OTLP port configuration fixes to ensure telemetry is exported to the correct endpoint, updated configurations, and refreshed tests and documentation. In solarwinds-otel-collector-releases, the OTLP port was updated from 4317 to 443 across data centers to ensure telemetry exports reach the correct endpoint; in solarwinds-otel-collector-contrib, the default OTLP port in the SolarWinds exporter was corrected to 443 with accompanying config and unit test updates. Both efforts included CHANGELOG updates. These fixes reduce data routing errors, improve observability backend accuracy, and strengthen customer-facing telemetry SLAs.
