Menelik Vero enhanced the Apache Iceberg Python RestCatalog by introducing flexible SSL configuration, allowing the SSL CA bundle to be set to None to support SSL deactivation when needed. Working primarily in Python, Menelik focused on backend and API development, implementing robust test coverage to validate session verification and CA bundle handling in SSL-disabled scenarios. The work addressed deployment challenges across on-premises and cloud environments by enabling more granular security controls. Through targeted changes in the apache/iceberg-python repository, Menelik improved the reliability and configurability of client-server negotiations, reducing misconfiguration risks and strengthening the overall security posture of deployments.
