During November 2025, Meriam Hachani contributed to the apache/opennlp repository by implementing French part-of-speech tagging support, expanding the platform’s multilingual NLP capabilities. She developed end-to-end samples and comprehensive tests in Java, introducing French sample sentences, POS tags, and a dedicated constant to validate the new model. Her work included initializing resources and a testing context for French language processing, laying the groundwork for future multilingual enhancements. Collaborating with Richard Zowalla, she focused on code quality and peer review. Meriam’s efforts demonstrated depth in natural language processing and software testing, addressing the need for robust French language support in OpenNLP.
