Worked on the availproject/avail-light repository, focusing on enhancing observability and diagnostics across the backend. Over two months, delivered features that expanded RPC telemetry metrics and established unified error logging throughout the system. Leveraged Rust to implement new metric counters for RPC connections, improved metric initialization, and standardized error messages with tracing IDs across subsystems such as API, RocksDB, and P2P clients. These changes improved monitoring, traceability, and reliability, reducing diagnostic blind spots and supporting faster root-cause analysis. The work emphasized robust error handling, structured logging, and metrics instrumentation, laying the foundation for future automation and proactive incident detection.
July 2025: Delivered system-wide error logging and observability enhancements for avail-light, establishing a unified diagnostics surface across API, app client, maintenance, RocksDB store, P2P restarts, sync client, and updater. These changes improve traceability, reduce debugging time, and bolster reliability across the service.
