Worked on the dbt-labs/dbt-mcp repository to address a critical issue in the dbt Semantic Layer’s JSON serialization. Focused on backend development using Python, the work involved implementing a targeted fix that converts Decimal values to floats within query results, ensuring compatibility with JSON serialization standards. This approach eliminated client-side errors related to Decimal fields and improved data integrity for downstream applications. The solution required careful handling of data serialization and collaborative development practices, including co-authorship. Emphasis was placed on unit testing to validate the fix, resulting in more reliable JSON output and smoother integration for client applications.
