Developed the Zed Auto-Update Progress Feedback feature in the zed-industries/zed repository, introducing a real-time download progress indicator within the update button to enhance user experience during application updates. Leveraged Rust and asynchronous programming to implement callback-based progress tracking, ensuring responsive UI updates throughout the auto-update flow. The work included comprehensive unit tests to validate progress reporting and edge cases, as well as manual UI testing to confirm alignment with Zed’s design guidelines. This feature not only improves user confidence and reduces perceived latency but also establishes a technical foundation for future telemetry and user experience enhancements within the update process.
