During December 2024, Massat developed foundational Protobuf definitions for the Trace Data Retrieval API within the getsentry/sentry-protos repository. Focusing on API development and protocol buffers, Massat designed the GetTraces endpoint to support attribute-based querying, ordering, and filtering, enabling scalable trace data retrieval workflows for downstream analytics. The work involved careful schema design in protobuf, ensuring consistency with EAP guidelines and repository conventions. While no bugs were fixed during this period, the contribution established the proto surface necessary for future trace data retrieval features. This initial implementation laid the groundwork for robust, queryable trace analytics within the Sentry ecosystem.
