Worked on Apache ShardingSphere to implement cross-shard support for ORDER BY on VARBINARY columns in MySQL, enabling accurate sorting and grouping of byte array values across distributed databases. The solution introduced a ComparableByteArray wrapper to ensure content-based comparison, which was integrated into the ORDER BY, GROUP BY, and DISTINCT merge paths. Refactoring efforts moved the wrapper to a reusable location and updated comparison logic for groupings. Comprehensive end-to-end and unit tests were added to validate multi-shard scenarios. The work leveraged Java, database management, and sharding expertise, with updates documented in release notes to support maintainability and future development.
