During November 2025, Loening developed and contributed a new Homebrew Cask for ApE (A Plasmid Editor) version 3.1.8.1 to the Homebrew/homebrew-cask repository. Using Ruby and package management skills, Loening created a standardized installation and upgrade process for ApE, enabling researchers to set up DNA sequence analysis and annotation tools with a single command. This work streamlined onboarding and ensured consistent environments across user machines. By focusing on packaging quality and repository consistency, Loening’s contribution addressed reproducibility challenges in scientific workflows, delivering a maintainable solution that integrates seamlessly with the Homebrew ecosystem for macOS users.
