Worked on enhancing API access control within the opensearch-project/security repository by developing a non-destructive permission validation feature. Built an API Permission Check Simulation that allows teams to verify user permissions through a dedicated query parameter, has_permission_check=true, without executing the underlying API call. This approach improves security review processes by providing immediate feedback on access rights and highlighting missing privileges, all while maintaining system integrity. The implementation leveraged Groovy and Java for backend development, with a focus on secure API design. Over the course of the month, contributed one feature that streamlines permission validation and supports safer, more efficient security workflows.
July 2025 monthly summary focused on delivering non-destructive permission validation for API access control in the security domain. The primary feature delivered was an API Permission Check Simulation that enables teams to validate permissions without executing the actual API calls, improving safety and speeding up security reviews.
