Worked on the open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib repository to enhance the S3 server access log parser by introducing support for the source_region field and improving forward compatibility. The update involved extending the Go-based parser to recognize and map the new field while ensuring that unknown future fields are gracefully skipped, preventing parse-time errors as AWS evolves its log formats. This approach increased the resilience of log ingestion and reduced potential downtime or support needs. The work demonstrated backend development skills with AWS and Go, maintaining parsing performance and code clarity while enabling smoother future extensions to the awslogsencodingextension component.
