Worked on the opensearch-project/sql repository to streamline data querying by removing the legacy Spark SQL integration. Focused on deprecating and deleting the spark-sql-application module, including all associated files, tests, and configurations, to simplify the codebase and reduce ongoing maintenance. Utilized skills in Java, Scala, and build tooling with sbt to ensure a clean removal process and maintain system stability. This effort aligned the project with its roadmap by consolidating query pathways, resulting in a leaner and more maintainable stack. The work improved onboarding for new contributors and clarified the future direction of data querying within the project.
