In May 2025, Rafal Rzeszut enhanced metadata management for FlightSQL in both the xtdb/arrow-java and mathworks/arrow repositories. He developed features that expose column remarks in table metadata, enabling richer data discovery and improving client experience, particularly for JDBC users. Using C++, Java, and Protocol Buffers, Rafal standardized the ARROW:FLIGHT:SQL:REMARKS metadata key across both implementations, ensuring consistent access to column descriptions through the FlightSQL CommandGetTables interface. This work focused on backend development and database integration, laying the groundwork for improved interoperability and more informative metadata in downstream tools, with an emphasis on cross-repository consistency and protocol alignment.
