Worked on the cockroachdb/terraform-provider-cockroach repository to implement drift suppression for machine_type during instance family migrations, specifically when the vCPU count remained unchanged. This feature preserved the previous machine_type value in Terraform state even if the API returned a different type, while also providing user-facing warnings to clarify changes. Enhanced the plan modification logic to handle UseStateForUnknown scenarios for num_virtual_cpus, ensuring that explicit user changes were correctly propagated to the server. The work, utilizing Go, Terraform, and cloud infrastructure expertise, reduced false drift and plan churn, resulting in more stable and predictable infrastructure plans for users.
