During October 2024, Sandipan Das contributed to the espressif/qemu repository by implementing PerfMonV2 support for AMD processors in KVM guest environments. He achieved this by adding a new CPUID leaf, 0x80000022, which advertises the PerfMonV2 capability to guest virtual machines when the host supports it and KVM is enabled. This enhancement allows guest VMs to access advanced performance monitoring features, improving observability and diagnostics in virtualized systems. Sandipan’s work required a strong understanding of CPU architecture, system programming, and virtualization, and was developed in C. The contribution addressed a targeted feature with technical depth and precision.
