Worked on the docker/model-runner repository to deliver two user-focused features enhancing prompt editing and model configuration. Developed cross-platform external editor integration, enabling users to launch their preferred text editor with Ctrl+X for prompt editing, and improved the runEditor workflow for reliability across environments. Added ContextSize support in model configuration, allowing the system to honor context limits from configuration files and directory sources, with comprehensive tests to ensure correctness. Focused on portability by updating shell defaults and refining error handling. Utilized Go, shell scripting, and test-driven development, aligning documentation with code changes to streamline onboarding and improve developer experience.
April 2026 monthly summary for docker/model-runner. Delivered user-centric enhancements and model-context improvements while stabilizing cross-platform behavior. Key features include External Editor Integration for Prompt Editing (Ctrl+X) with cross-platform editor launching and improved runEditor flow, and ContextSize Support in Model Configuration to honor ContextSize from model configs and the FromDirectory path, including tests. Major fixes and stability work include portability improvements (default shell changed to /bin/sh) and extensive review/comment fixes to improve code quality and maintainability. The combined work reduces prompt-edit time, enables longer input contexts, and improves reliability across development environments. Demonstrated skills include cross-platform scripting, configuration parsing, test-driven development, lint/refactor discipline, and documentation alignment, all driving measurable business value like faster iteration, better model context utilization, and reduced risk of context truncation.
