Worked on the Frontify/fondue repository to deliver accessibility improvements for the Datepicker component, focusing on enhancing keyboard navigation and focus management. The approach involved programmatically setting focus to the first header button when the calendar opens and updating ARIA attributes to accurately reflect the dialog’s expanded state, ensuring better screen reader support. These changes were implemented using React, TypeScript, and CSS, with validation through Cypress-based testing and regression checks. The work addressed a tracked accessibility issue, aligning the component with accessibility standards and reducing future support risks, while improving the overall user experience for keyboard and assistive technology users.
