Rafal Maj developed and integrated OpenTelemetry gRPC metrics for the Sansshell server in the Snowflake-Labs/sansshell repository, focusing on enhancing server-side observability. He implemented OpenTelemetry’s gRPC stats handler and updated Go module dependencies to enable the collection and exposure of detailed metrics, including latency, throughput, and error rates for gRPC calls. This work, using Go and leveraging skills in observability and gRPC, provided the foundation for improved performance monitoring and troubleshooting. By enabling real-time visibility into server behavior, Rafal’s contribution supported SLA tracking and proactive optimization, demonstrating a solid understanding of distributed systems instrumentation within a production environment.
