During December 2025, Mlanawo Mbechezi contributed to the symfony/symfony repository by addressing a compatibility issue in Symfony Messenger’s PostgreSQL transport. Mlanawo implemented a targeted patch to handle PHP 8.5 deprecation warnings by conditionally replacing the deprecated pgsqlGetNotify() function with the new getNotify() method, based on the detected PHP version. This backend fix, developed using PHP and leveraging expertise in PostgreSQL and Symfony, ensured continued compatibility for deployments upgrading to PHP 8.5. The work focused on maintaining runtime stability and preserving upgrade paths, demonstrating a precise and thoughtful approach to technical debt and framework evolution within a complex codebase.
