In December 2025, Sofstzz developed an OpenTelemetry exporter for feature flag evaluations in the thomaspoignant/go-feature-flag repository. This work enabled evaluation events to be exported as OpenTelemetry spans, each enriched with detailed attributes for improved observability in distributed systems. Using Go and leveraging OpenTelemetry, Sofstzz ensured proper span context propagation, optimized attribute setting for performance, and introduced type-safe handling of flag metadata. The implementation included comprehensive logging enhancements, robust error handling for marshalling, and protection against nil loggers. A dedicated test suite and updated documentation accompanied the rollout, reflecting a thorough and reliable approach to backend development and instrumentation.
