Worked on performance optimization for the hashing path in the oven-sh/bun repository, focusing on enhancing Bun.hash.crc32. Migrated the implementation to use zlib’s hardware-accelerated CRC32, introducing chunking to safely process inputs larger than 4GB and eliminate previous bottlenecks in large-input hashing. The work was carried out in Zig, leveraging low-level programming techniques and performance optimization strategies. Validation was performed on macOS using a local bun-debug build, with benchmarking confirming a substantial reduction in hashing latency. These changes accelerated build processes, asset handling, and content-addressed caching, while maintaining clear commit traceability and ensuring no regressions in the tested path.
Month 2025-12 — Performance optimization for the hashing path in oven-sh/bun. Delivered Bun.hash.crc32 Performance Enhancement by switching to zlib's CRC32 with hardware acceleration, and added chunking to safely handle inputs larger than 4GB. This removes a longstanding bottleneck in large-input hashing and brings parity with zlib CRC32. Validation was performed in a macOS 13/14-era environment using a local bun-debug build, with clear commit traceability.
