Worked on the FormingWorlds/PROTEUS repository to enhance the reliability and maintainability of data downloads by building a centralized, reusable data download framework. Applied Python and code optimization techniques, including the integration of functools.cache to the get_osf function, which reduced redundant data fetches and improved overall performance. Refactored existing logic to standardize dataset retrieval, simplifying future onboarding of new data sources and reducing maintenance overhead. Addressed user experience by restoring print-based progress feedback, ensuring operational transparency during long-running downloads. Documented all changes thoroughly, demonstrating a focus on maintainable, efficient data management and debugging practices throughout the development process.
October 2024 monthly review: Focused on enhancing data download reliability, performance, and maintainability for FormingWorlds/PROTEUS. Delivered a reusable data download framework, improved performance with caching, and preserved user-facing progress feedback to support operational transparency and downstream data pipelines.
