During September 2025, Thore Goebel focused on enhancing memory safety across Android applications by enabling the Arm Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) in the thunderbird/thunderbird-android, nextcloud/notes-android, and nextcloud/android repositories. Thore implemented opt-in MTE support by updating AndroidManifest.xml configurations and maintaining consistent commit hygiene, laying the groundwork for safer production deployments and streamlined debugging. The work leveraged skills in Android development, debugging, and XML, with an emphasis on cross-repository collaboration. Although no major bugs were fixed, Thore’s contributions improved the resilience and diagnostic capabilities of these mobile applications, preparing them for broader adoption of memory safety features.
