Worked on the shakacode/react_on_rails repository to address reliability and monitoring challenges in a Ruby on Rails environment. Focused on backend development and instrumentation, the work involved resolving a load-order bug by moving ScoutApm instrumentation into a Rails initializer. This approach ensured that monitoring started after ScoutApm loaded, preventing noisy logs and guaranteeing accurate instrumentation of ReactOnRails methods. Additional tests were implemented to validate the initializer’s behavior with and without the monitoring system, and continuous integration coverage was improved to automatically trigger relevant tests. The changes enhanced monitoring reliability and reduced boot-time log noise using Ruby and Rails.
