Worked on enhancing telemetry data quality in the open-telemetry/opentelemetry-go-contrib repository by refining how HTTP status codes are handled within the Go-based OpenTelemetry HTTP instrumentation. Addressed a bug where informational 1xx status codes were being persisted, introducing logic to ignore these codes and record only relevant 2xx–5xx statuses. Developed and integrated automated tests to ensure correct handling of informational codes and to prevent future regressions. Leveraged skills in Go, backend development, and API design to deliver maintainable code with clear commit history. The improvements reduced noise in telemetry dashboards and alerting, resulting in more reliable monitoring for downstream users.
Concise monthly summary for 2026-03 focused on improving telemetry data quality in the OpenTelemetry Go contrib repository by fixing how HTTP status codes are persisted and adding tests to guard against regressions.
