Worked on enhancing date formatting in the uutils/coreutils repository by implementing GNU-compatible behavior for the date utility. Focused on aligning formatting logic with GNU date standards, including precise handling of width and padding, and addressed edge cases such as maintaining lowercase am/pm for the %#P specifier. Updated and expanded unit tests to ensure the new formatting logic was robust and regression-safe, improving reliability across different locales and widths. Utilized Rust for both feature development and comprehensive testing, demonstrating attention to detail in specification compliance and interoperability. The work contributed to more predictable and standards-aligned date formatting for users.
