In June 2025, Gabriel contributed to the YaLTeR/niri repository by developing a focus-aware window movement feature for workspace management. Using Rust and drawing on skills in UI development and system programming, Gabriel introduced a focus parameter to window movement operations, allowing users to control whether focus follows a moved window or remains in the original workspace. This change improved the reliability and predictability of cross-workspace window operations, addressing issues with focus handling during move-window-to-workspace and move-column-to-workspace actions. The work demonstrated a thoughtful approach to user experience and system behavior, delivering a targeted feature with clear, maintainable code changes.
