Zhaoyun Jiong developed support for RAM Roles for Service Accounts (RRSA) in the apache/iceberg repository, enabling Aliyun OSS clients to authenticate using role-based credentials rather than hard-coded secrets. He implemented environment detection for RRSA, updated the OSS client creation logic to utilize these credentials, and wrote comprehensive unit tests to verify behavior across deployment scenarios. Working primarily in Java, he applied skills in API development and cloud computing to enhance security and simplify credential management. This work addressed the challenge of secure, scalable authentication in multi-cloud environments, demonstrating a focused and technically sound approach to cloud-native engineering problems.
January 2026: Delivered RRSA support for Aliyun OSS in Apache Iceberg, enabling pods to assume RAM roles without hard-coded credentials. Implemented RRSA environment detection, updated OSS client creation to use RRSA credentials, and added tests for RRSA environment detection and OSS client behavior. This work improves security, reduces credential management overhead, and enhances multi-cloud capabilities.
