During January 2026, HSB enhanced the DSpace/DSpace repository by improving the reliability of the BasicLinkChecker component. They addressed failures caused by URLs containing spaces by implementing robust URL normalization and formatting before HTTP requests, leveraging their expertise in Java and HTTP protocols. HSB also introduced error logging for invalid URLs, which improved observability and streamlined debugging. In addition, they performed a code-quality cleanup by removing trailing spaces, adhering to clean code practices and enhancing maintainability. This work reduced runtime failures in link checking and resulted in a cleaner, more maintainable backend codebase for future development and enhancements.
