Worked on the zen-browser/updates-server repository to enhance the reliability and user experience of AppImage installations and updates. Addressed installation failures by improving symbolic link handling, ensuring that .desktop and .png files within extracted AppImage content are correctly located using enhanced shell scripting techniques. Introduced dynamic discovery of the user’s download directory for AppImage updates by leveraging xdg-user-dir with a HOME fallback, which ensures zsync files are placed in user-preferred locations. The work, implemented entirely in Shell, focused on reducing install-time errors and aligning update processes with user configurations, resulting in a more stable and user-friendly update workflow.
